What to See in Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik's attractions cover the city walls circuit, Rector's Palace, Lovrijenac fortress, the Srd cable car, monastery museums, churches and Lokrum island.
The set-piece is the wall circuit: just under two kilometres of ramparts around the Old Town, walked one-way anticlockwise from the Pile entrance, with the Minceta tower at the high corner and sea views the whole way round. The same ticket covers Lovrijenac, the fortress on its own rock outside the walls that doubles as a theatre stage in the Summer Festival and stood in as the Red Keep for Game of Thrones. Allow ninety minutes to two hours for the walls and go at opening or in late afternoon in summer, since there is no shade.
Street level holds the Rector's Palace and its Cultural History Museum, the Sponza Palace archive, the Franciscan monastery with its pharmacy that has traded since 1317, and the cathedral treasury. The cable car climbs from just above the north walls to the 412-metre summit of Srd in under four minutes, where the Napoleonic Fort Imperial houses the Homeland War museum covering the 1991 to 1995 siege of the city. The Old Port ferries add Lokrum, the wooded reserve island fifteen minutes offshore with cloister ruins, peacocks and swimming coves. Combined tickets and the Dubrovnik Pass cover most of the paid sites and the walls.
